Riding Lessons

We offer riding lessons for all ages. Horseback riding is a great skill to learn. Learn to ride for pleasure or to compete. Lessons are $40 per hour, or 4 lessons for $150, to be paid on the 1st lesson: cash, check, Visa, Mastercard or Discover.

OUR HISTORY & PHILOSOPHY (plus lots of pictures)

Riding lessons were a top priority in my life as a child of ten. My best friend, Cheryl, and I rode Saturday mornings for a time. We were horse crazy kids then and we still keep in touch, even after fifty years! Childhood relationships can be very special and even last a lifetime.

When I began riding instruction as a child in Atlanta, you arrived for your lesson to find your horse already groomed and dressed to ride. You rode for an hour, got down and went home.

I had some wonderful instructors, but never got to know the horse or feel I was any part of the horse’s life. I want my students to have a more complete experience. I teach with the thought in mind that these students may have horses of their own one day. They need to know more than just how to ride. I want them to understand the horse: how it talks to us so we can be good listeners, how to talk to it so it can understand us and not be confused or frustrated.

When I came to this area in 1989, there were no other foundation hunt seat instructors. A lesson program has been developed at Mahada Farms over the past twenty years that is a good solid foundation learning experience for a beginning student, child or adult. Students have started as early as 3 and as late as 70 with horses that are suited to this type of work.

We are not real rigid about things here, but safety is our first priority. I am certified in recreational riding (with a lean toward hunt seat) and in barn management. I have given students the opportunity to learn teaching skills and become certified as well, enabling them to start their own farms and businesses.

We are about:

  • Sharing knowledge
  • Family fun
  • Friendly competition

We are blessed to be able to serve our community.
